Eyes are meant to see, yet not all eyes see. Eyes are meant to watch, but sometimes they watch not knowing what they are seeing. Unable to process it or to understand it, they watch. And they watch. And they watch. And at a certain point they grow a mouth. A grotesque figure emerges with two big eyes, a mouth that spits and talks. Not yet human, it may never become a human. They might think to themselves “I’m an observer”, yet they miss the point. An observer doesn’t just have eyes. He has ears. He has arms, legs and most importantly empathy. Yet these monsters yell and yell with their eyes closed. You can hear them far, you can hear them wide, you can hear their cries even when no one is around. They are echoes of terrifying beasts that lurk night and day with their big eyes to see. Waiting, they are waiting for you or anyone to do something they don’t agree with you just so they can wet their filthy mouths and scream at you until you’re deaf, defeated and alone. And alone you’ll be if you give into their terrifying screeches.
To observe you have to be able to perceive. Then to have the coolness to understand what it is you see. To understand that you cannot understand everything. Time is little, so is the capacity to learn everything by seeing everything there is to see and understand. And that all is okay with not knowing everything, not understanding everything and trusting others to make sense of things. And here lies the difference between an observer and the not observer. One has a keen eye to see the wrong, learn from it, share their experience with others. The other doesn’t know what they are looking at. They just spew whatever they feel is right and makes the most sense to them. Yet not all is lost, you can still find a way out of it. You can still find a way to save yourself from their filthy mouths and horrid eyes. Throw their nasty gunk back into their eyes. But one thing you should never do is to let them feed. Do not let them grow. Poke their souls, poke their eyes, and whatever you do, drive them away from the mountain of food they wish to consume. It is very important for the not observer to not consume more of whatever make it grow and spew. Otherwise it will be lost forever with no way back.
There will be those naive ones you’ll encounter along the way that they’ll tell you silly things about letting them be. Do not heed their advice. The more freedom you give them, the less you correct them, the more they consume, the more dangerous they’ll become. You must certainly do not let these grotesque beings masquerade as observers or have the sense of righteousness. They’ll bloom, they’ll grow more and more and more until they are no longer recognizable as human. Bloodshot eyes, paranoia, fear induced insomnia, need for control, need to scream for attention, all these are symptoms of the not observers. They are dangerous creatures that will destroy everything that doesn’t fit in their world. And their world is a dangerous one. A wrong step and they’ll snatch you and rip you limb from limb. Those eyes, and that mouth does not know what it does as it destroys what it has around it. It seeds doubt in those weak and spreads dread whenever it feels they can catch you unguarded. Be very wary of the not observer…
Hope you liked this post. This has been eating at my core since the pandemic started. And when too many people die and others deny their deaths, it feels to me like they’ve lost their humanity. And no matter what they claim they might be, that’s not how I see them. Hope you liked it, if you did and want to keep the short stories free, you can always donate at https://www.paypal.me/RaulFO
